Two ‘National Dementia Care Awards’ for Two Allies β Yes we know how to party! We are thrilled to announce that our team at the ‘Sheffield Memory Hub’ has been awarded the ‘Outstanding Provider of Dementia Care in the Community.’ Additionally, our colleague Natasha Wilson has been recognised as the ‘Most Inspiring Leader in Dementia Care.’ Celebrating these achievements awarded in Sheffield where we all live has been truly euphoric.
ππΏ This provides true recognition and validation to our members, their care partners, our passionate team of facilitators, volunteers, and supporters.
ποΈ Looking ahead, winning this award provides us with a platform to amplify the challenges faced by communities that are often overlooked and underserved, in regards to early diagnosis, dementia care, enablement, and support.
π’ It also provides a platform to share strategies.
π Research reveals that individuals of Black African and African Caribbean heritage face a 22% higher risk of developing dementia. Furthermore, once diagnosed, we live shorter lives, passing away nearly three years earlier than our white counterparts with the condition.
π£οΈ Focusing on increasing early diagnosis within Black African & African Caribbean communities. In collaboration with proactive GP practices, our developing pilot project aims to ensure early and accurate diagnoses, unlocking crucial care support and treatments.
π½οΈ Diminishing stigma of dementia and heightening awareness within UK minoritised communities. Our focus involves creating short documentaries in collaboration with ‘experts by experience’. Stay tuned for impactful storytelling and meaningful insights.
π‘Sharing freely accessible online culturally responsive resources and interventions with care establishments, empowering the workforce with valuable enabling tools.
