Alzheimer's Disease International 36th Global Conference in Krakow

Day 3 Alzheimer’s Disease International 36th Global Conference in Krakow saw Carl Case delighted in joining the stage platform in focusing on, ‘Underrepresented Populations and Dementia’.
The areas we addressed included;

๐Ÿš€ ‘The Space Between: Understanding the Experience of Nonbinary Persons with Dementia. A qualitative exploration’ – Mx Dรกithรญ Clayton

๐Ÿš€ ‘Exploring the experiences of LGBTQ+ people living with dementia: Itโ€™s time to get creative!’ – John Hammond

๐Ÿš€ ‘Living with violence in Colombia: the risk of developing mental health problems and dementia among older adults living with violence throughout their lives’ – Prof Mark Gabbay

๐Ÿš€ ‘Recruiting people living with dementia (including those who lack capacity to consent) remotely vs. in-person: learning from the Dementia PersonAlised Care Team (D-PACT) feasibility study during COVID-19’ – Tomasina Oh

๐Ÿš€ ‘Sex differences in the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment and dementia, and their risk factors, in Bengaluru’ – Michelle Mielke

๐Ÿš€ ‘Genetic studies for Alzheimerโ€™s Disease in Peru and Bolivia’ Giuseppe Tosto

๐Ÿš€ Chaired by (generous with time) Jesus Rodrigo Board Member, Alzheimer’s Disease International, Spain. I am so thankful for his generosity with his timekeeping as I may have gone slightly above my allocated time. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ

Carl really wished however, that he was sat amongst the delegates, being able to fully absorb their illuminating presentations, as opposed to being consumed by my nervous anxiety.

๐Ÿš€ ‘Big Up’ to Dame Suzi Leather Chair of Alzheimer’s Society (UK) who gave me my ‘required’ customary high five๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฟ prior to heading to the mike (I’m not superstitious – but it needs to be done) ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿš€ Not too certain whether Carl should also ‘give props’ to Sarah Merriman Msc Dementia Studies, who immediately prior to stepping up to the stage, kindly gave him a fresh cup of coffee. Whilst sat on stage, the first sip saw the lid coming off and coffee spilling all over Carl’s blue shirt, and leaving his trousers apparently revealing that he have had a bladder incident. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

He had to (not discreetly) leave the stage, grab his jacket in an attempt to cover the spillage. Carl is so looking forward to repaying your good deed in the very near future Sarah. ๐Ÿคฃ

๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€ On a serious note, I used my presentation to highlight HOW, in pursuit of ‘meaningful engagements with people from African & African Caribbean people living with and affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease;

‘Dementia Intelligence is the key. Once one knows how to engage in a culturally meaningful way, and also has access to appropriate resources, it’s not rocket science’.
