Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world, reaching up to 60 cm (about 2 feet) long and weighing up to 18 kg (about 40 pounds). Originally from South Asia, the jackfruit was brought to Jamaica in 1782 when jackfruit plants are said to have been captured from French ship destined for Martinique and taken to Jamaica. In Trinidad known by many as cowa or chataigne.
