Hindu Woman – possibly 1880’s

from £4.99

Vintage Indian glamour studio portrait which were fashionable during this period, with some studios catering specifically for women. From Jnanadanandini’s first experiments with the sari, blouse and petticoat in the 1870s to 1900, there is not a significant amount of variation in the ensemble except perhaps for its adoption in the wider society and the usual changes in sleeve lengths, embellishments, fabrics etc. Regional sari draping styles often prevailed but the Victorian blouse, shoes and where required a petticoat, was added.
